Common Range Rover Problems in the UAE: What Breaks, on Which Models, and What We See in the Workshop
Range Rovers in Dubai most often need air suspension work (struts, compressor, valve block), cooling system repairs (plastic crossover pipe, thermostat housing, water pump, radiator), timing chain guides and supercharger service on the 5.0 V8, oil leaks, parking brake modules and battery-drain diagnostics. At Golden Horse diagnostics is from 100 AED, engine diagnostics with endoscopy from 500 AED, strut replacement labour from 200 AED, oil and filters from 300 AED (excl. VAT).
Range Rover is the most-loved SUV in Dubai and, in our workshop, the one that most rewards early attention. The problems are well known — air suspension, cooling, the 5.0 V8's timing and supercharger, electrics — and almost all of them give a warning weeks before they leave the car on the roadside. The heat simply compresses the timeline.
Below is what Golden Horse in Al Quoz actually sees on Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Velar, Evoque, Discovery and Defender, by model and engine, with labour prices from our Range Rover repair prices and the advice of Vyacheslav Tikhonov, the mechanic who does most of our Land Rover suspension and engine work.

What we see most often on Range Rovers in Al Quoz
- Air suspension. L322, L405, L494 Sport, L460, Velar and Discovery: a strut or spring bellow cracks in the heat, the car sags overnight, the compressor overworks and burns out, the valve block sticks. "Suspension fault — normal height only" is the message. Suspension diagnostics from 100 AED, strut replacement labour from 200 AED.
- Cooling system. The plastic crossover coolant pipe behind the supercharger on the 5.0 V8, thermostat housings, water pumps, expansion tanks and radiators on every model. Symptoms: coolant smell, level dropping, temperature climbing in traffic. Cooling system diagnostics from 80 AED; a pressure test finds the weeping part before it splits.
- 5.0 supercharged V8: timing chain and supercharger. Range Rover, Sport and Discovery 4 of 2010–2014: chain guides and tensioners wear, giving a rattle for the first seconds after a cold start; the supercharger nose cone bearing whines. We check with an endoscope and live data and replace the chain kit before it jumps.
- Oil leaks. Valve cover gaskets, rear main seal and the oil cooler on the V8; valve cover and timing cover on the Ingenium. A burning smell after a highway run is the usual first sign. Valve cover gasket from 150 AED.
- Parking brake module and rear brakes. L322 and Discovery 3/4 electronic parking brake modules fail and seize; on all models the rear discs corrode quickly in humid months and pads wear unevenly. Brake pads from 100 AED per axle, discs from 100 AED per axle.
- Battery drain and electrical faults. A car that shows five unrelated warnings in the morning usually has a tired battery or a module that does not sleep. Electrical diagnostics from 100 AED; we test the battery and ground points first.
- Transfer case, differentials and driveshafts. Vibration at 80–100 km/h, clunks on take-off — worn driveshaft joints, a transfer case that needs fluid, a rear diff bushing. Transfer case oil from 250 AED.
- Air conditioning. Blend door actuators clicking behind the dash, low refrigerant, condenser damage from stones. AC refill from 300 AED.

How to make a Range Rover last in Dubai heat
- Oil every 8,000–10,000 km. The 5.0 V8 timing chain and the Ingenium chain both live on clean oil; the 16,000–21,000 km factory interval is for Europe.
- Air suspension check every service. Five minutes with soapy water on the struts and a look at compressor run time saves the compressor.
- Cooling system as a set at 100,000 km: crossover pipe, thermostat, water pump, expansion tank, hoses. Coolant of the correct specification, never water.
- Battery every 3 years, and drive the car. A Range Rover that sits for two weeks in the sun will greet you with a dashboard full of warnings.
- Do not ignore vibration. A vibration at 80–100 km/h is a driveshaft or a tyre problem today and a transfer case problem in three months.
When to book
If your Range Rover sags overnight, shows a suspension fault, smells of coolant, rattles on cold start or wakes up with a dashboard full of warnings, the repair is still small. Send the model, year and symptom to WhatsApp and a mechanic will tell you within minutes what it is likely to be and what diagnostics cost. FAQ
Why does my Range Rover drop to the bumpers overnight?
An air spring or strut is leaking — heat cracks the rubber bellow — or the valve block is passing air. Left alone, the compressor overheats and fails as well. We find the leak with soapy water and the diagnostic tool, replace the strut and check the compressor output; strut replacement labour is from 200 AED.
Is the 5.0 supercharged V8 reliable?
It is a strong engine with three known weak points: timing chain guides and tensioners on 2010–2014 units, the water pump and plastic crossover coolant pipe, and the supercharger nose cone bearing. All three warn before they fail — a cold-start rattle, a coolant level that drops, a whine from the supercharger — and all three are far cheaper to fix early.
What about the newer Ingenium engines?
The 2.0 petrol P250/P300 in Evoque, Velar and Discovery Sport is generally reliable in the UAE; what we see is coolant loss from the thermostat housing and hoses, oil leaks and, at high mileage, timing chain wear. The 3.0 Ingenium straight-six with the 48V system adds mild-hybrid battery and starter-generator faults.
Do you repair Range Rover electronics?
Yes: parking brake modules, InControl and screen faults, battery-drain diagnosis, tailgate and window modules, key and immobiliser issues. Electrical diagnostics is from 100 AED; we always start with the battery and ground connections because half of the strange warnings on a Range Rover come from low voltage.
