The Challenger is the muscle car Dubai actually buys — SXT and GT cars on the 3.6 Pentastar that do the daily commute, R/T and Scat Pack HEMIs that do the Friday drive, and Hellcats that need a workshop with the right scanner and the patience for a supercharger. At Golden Horse in Al Quoz 3 we see them every week, and the faults fall into a short list by engine. Here is what we repair, what it costs and when to come.
What We Repair on the Challenger
- 3.6 Pentastar V6 — the plastic oil filter housing and cooler that crack and leak oil and coolant into the valley in heat (the most common Challenger repair in Dubai), rocker arm and lifter tick on 2011–2016 engines, spark plugs and coils, intake and valve cover gaskets. Oil filter housing from 300 AED, plugs from 100 AED.
- 5.7 and 6.4 HEMI — lifter and camshaft wear behind the 'HEMI tick', the MDS cylinder deactivation that accelerates it, exhaust manifold bolts that snap, 16 spark plugs every 50,000 km, oil consumption and valve cover seepage. Engine diagnostics with endoscopy from 500 AED.
- 6.2 Hellcat / Redeye — service with the correct oil and belt, supercharger intercooler pump and circuit, plugs, cooling and brakes that match 700+ hp. Internals quoted after inspection.
- Gearbox and driveline — ZF 8HP45 / 8HP70 / 8HP90 that want fluid and an adaptation reset when they shudder or clunk; the older 5-speed; the Tremec clutch; rear differential fluid and the driveshaft centre bearing. Gearbox oil from 350 AED.
- Cooling — a system that is marginal in August: radiator end tanks, water pump, thermostat, fan module, the Pentastar housing leak. Pressure test from 80 AED, radiator from 250 AED.
- Brakes — warped front discs on a 1.9-tonne car in traffic, Brembo pads on Scat Pack and Hellcat, old brake fluid. Pads from 150 AED per axle, discs from 150 AED.
- Suspension and steering — rear lower control arm and tension strut bushings, front struts and sway bar links, steering rack knock. Shocks from 200 AED, arms from 150 AED per pair.
- Electrics and AC — TIPM relay faults (fuel pump, starter, fans), battery drain and batteries after two summers, Uconnect screen delamination and resets, wheel-speed sensors, a condenser full of sand. AC refill from 200 AED, diagnostics from 100 AED.

Challenger in Dubai: the Service Intervals That Matter
Oil every 8,000 km on the Pentastar and 10,000 km on the HEMI, with a look at the oil filter housing at every change on the 3.6; 16 plugs every 50,000 km on the HEMI; coolant every two years with a pressure test at every service; ZF fluid every 60,000 km; brake fluid every two years; rear differential fluid every 60,000 km on the V8s. A battery and TIPM drain test every spring. We put it on one plan with dates.
Buying a Used Challenger
Bring it for a pre-purchase inspection before paying: lifter and manifold check on the HEMI, oil filter housing on the 3.6, endoscope and live data, gearbox adaptation values, TIPM and battery drain, rear bushings and subframe, discs, paint thickness and accident history, fault memory of every module. Written report with photos the same day.
