What we see most often on Porsches in Al Quoz
- Coolant pipes and water pumps. Cayenne 955/957 with the 4.5 and 4.8 V8 have plastic coolant pipes under the intake that split; the fix is the aluminium kit. Cayenne 958, Panamera 970 and Macan lose coolant at the thermostat housing, water pump and the small pipes on the V6. Symptom: a sweet smell after driving and a level that needs topping up. - Bore scoring and IMS on older flat-sixes. 996, 997.1, Boxster 986/987 and Cayman 987 with the M96/M97: ticking on cold start, soot on one tailpipe, oil consumption. We confirm with a bore scope before any decision.
- Carbon buildup on direct-injection engines. Every DFI Porsche after 2009: rough idle and misfires at 80,000–120,000 km. Walnut blasting plus spark plugs (from 150 AED) and coils (from 100 AED).

How to make a Porsche last in Dubai heat
- Oil every 8,000–10,000 km, Porsche A40 / C40 specification. Flat-sixes and turbo V8s live on clean oil; long intervals in this heat are how bore scoring and turbo problems start.
- PDK and transfer case fluid every 60,000 km. The single cheapest way to avoid the two most expensive Cayenne and Macan repairs.
- Coolant pipes as a preventive job on 955/957 Cayenne and early Panamera. If the plastic pipes are still in the car, replace them before they split on Sheikh Zayed Road.
- Bore scope every two years on M96/M97 engines, together with an oil analysis. A 500 AED check against a 40,000 AED engine.
- Battery maintainer if the car sits. A Porsche that is driven twice a month needs a trickle charger; a flat battery costs more than the charger in coding and towing.

What is bore scoring and does it affect my 911?
Bore scoring is vertical scratching of the cylinder walls, mainly on the 3.6 and 3.8 M96/M97 engines of 2000–2008 (996, 997.1, Boxster and Cayman 987). Symptoms are a ticking on cold start, soot on the left tailpipe and rising oil consumption. We confirm it with a bore scope through the spark plug holes — a one-hour check, from 500 AED. Later 9A1 engines (997.2, 991, 981, 718) do not have this problem.
Is a Porsche transfer case repairable?
On the Cayenne 958 and Macan the shudder at low speed comes from worn clutch plates in the transfer case. Early on, a fluid change and a re-adaptation help; later the unit is replaced. We check it on every Cayenne and Macan road test because it is a 350 AED service or a very expensive part, depending on when it is caught.
Do you service PDK gearboxes?
Yes: fluid and filter changes, clutch adaptation, mechatronic diagnostics and repair. PDK fluid should be changed every 60,000 km in Dubai conditions, not the 120,000 km in the book. A service is from 350 AED.
