A ceramic coating is a liquid nano-ceramic layer that bonds to the clear coat and hardens into a glassy, hydrophobic shell. In Dubai it does three practical things: keeps water spots and dust from etching into the paint, blocks UV that fades colour and makes the car wash clean in half the time. Golden Horse in Al Quoz 3 applies one, two or three layers by hand — always on paint that has been polished and decontaminated first.
What You Get
- One layer — hydrophobic effect, UV protection, easier washing. The sensible choice for a new or recently polished car that is washed regularly. From 400 AED, one day.
- Two layers — more thickness, deeper gloss, longer life. The usual option for dark colours, where every swirl shows. From 650 AED, 1–2 days.
- Three layers — maximum durability for cars that live outside and owners who want 4–5 years from one application. From 900 AED, 2–3 days.
- Paint preparation — polishing before coating, from 500 AED. Without it the coating locks in existing scratches and water spots.
How the Coating Is Applied
The car is washed, clay-bar treated and polished to the level its paint needs; on a new car this may be a single light stage. The paint is then wiped with a panel-prep solution so no oils remain. Ceramic is applied by hand in small sections with an applicator pad, left to flash for a few minutes and levelled with clean microfibre — missed high spots are what turn into streaks later, so every panel is checked under a lamp before the next one. Each layer cures for several hours in the workshop before the next goes on, which is why a three-layer job takes two to three days. The car leaves dry to the touch; full hardness comes within a week.
Ceramic Coating vs Wax, Sealant and PPF
Wax and sealant give gloss for a few weeks and wash off in Dubai heat. Ceramic bonds chemically and lasts years. Paint protection film is a different product: a thick transparent film that stops stone chips and scuffs, which ceramic cannot. Many owners combine them — film on the bonnet, bumper and mirrors, ceramic on the rest of the car and often on top of the film. For a colour change or a full wrap see car wrapping; for the interior and a complete refresh, car detailing.
Looking After a Coated Car
No washing for the first 5–7 days. After that a hand wash or touchless wash with pH-neutral shampoo every one to two weeks keeps the coating working; automatic brush washes and abrasive cleaners wear it down. Bird droppings, tree sap and sprinkler water should be wiped off the same day. No wax or polish on top — if the gloss fades after a few years, the coating is refreshed with a light polish and a new layer.
Prices and Timing
One layer from 400 AED, two from 650 AED, three from 900 AED; polishing before coating from 500 AED. Prices exclude 5% VAT and depend on the size of the car. One layer is done in a day, three layers in two to three days. Send photos of the paint on WhatsApp or drive in to Al Quoz 3 for a free inspection and quote.
