Brake discs (rotors) are the part the pads clamp on. Every stop turns speed into heat in the disc, and in Dubai — 45°C asphalt, heavy SUVs, stop-and-go traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road — that heat cycle is harder on discs than anywhere in Europe. When a disc gets too thin, warps or develops grooves, it cannot shed heat evenly, the pedal starts to pulse and stopping distances grow. At Golden Horse we replace worn discs; we do not machine them.
Signs your brake discs need replacing
- Vibration or pulsing in the pedal or steering wheel when braking from speed — the classic sign of a warped or unevenly worn disc.
- A lip on the outer edge you can feel with a fingernail — the disc has worn below its original surface.
- Deep grooves or scoring across the face, usually after pads were run to the metal.
- Blue or dark heat spots on the disc face after hard braking or a dragging caliper.
- Grinding or a low rumble that continues after new pads were fitted.
- Thickness below the manufacturer's minimum — stamped on the disc hub; we measure it with a micrometer at every brake job.
Why we replace discs instead of skimming them
Skimming (resurfacing) takes material off a disc that is already thin. Modern discs are designed close to their minimum thickness to save weight, so a skimmed disc often ends up at or below the limit, overheats faster and warps again — in Dubai summer usually within a few months. New discs cost little more than the machining, come with a manufacturer's warranty and give you full pad life. That is why our price list has no resurfacing line: brake repair at Golden Horse means diagnosing and replacing what is worn.
How brake disc replacement is done at Golden Horse
- Measurement. Disc thickness with a micrometer at several points, run-out with a dial gauge, pad thickness, caliper slide pins, brake fluid condition. You get the numbers, not just an opinion.
- Quote. Written estimate with labour and disc options — original or OEM — before we start. Discs are always replaced in pairs on the same axle.
- Replacement. Calipers off, old discs off, hub face cleaned to bare metal so the new disc sits true, new discs and — where they are worn or glazed — new pads fitted, guide pins cleaned and lubricated, wear sensors and service indicator reset.
- Bedding-in and road test. A series of controlled stops to transfer an even pad layer onto the new discs, then a check for pull, noise and pedal feel. Warranty on parts and labour.
Prices for brake disc replacement in Dubai
Labour is from 150 AED per axle for discs and from 300 AED per axle for discs with pads; brake system diagnostics is from 100 AED. The discs themselves depend on the car: a Toyota or Nissan sedan is at the low end, performance and heavy cars (AMG, M, Range Rover, Cadillac Escalade) sit higher, and we always offer an original and an OEM option. See the full price list or use the calculator above for your brand and model. All prices exclude 5% VAT.
Discs and pads: what to combine
New discs with old pads is a false economy — the old pads have the profile of the old disc and glaze the new surface in the first weeks. If your brake pads have more than half their life left and the discs are within limits, we replace pads only. If the discs are at the limit, we replace both, and we check the brake fluid: after three years or in a car that has boiled its brakes on a mountain road, a fluid flush belongs in the same visit.
